I like to find beautiful colors in unexpected places...
I love driving around western North Carolina during the fall and visiting country produce and general stores.
I came across this produce store and took the photo. I really liked the contrasting colors of the corn kernels, as well as the textures and patterns. Flint corn or calico corn is a variant of maize. Each kernel has a hard outer layer so it’s compared to being as hard as flint (as in the stone).
Primarily used ornamentally as part of Thanksgiving decorations, however, for example, certain varieties can be used in succotash, tortillas, hominy, corn breads, and corn meal.
Happy Fall and Happy Thanksgiving!
